The Landing

A simple brush test again. Here I have used more tree brushes and the bird brushes for a sense of scale, and then I just went with what happened with my structure brushes. It ended up giving me the impression of a spaceship floating in the air.

bird brushes

Just a test of a bird brush made following along with the DVD. I have also finished up some dense tree brushes as well. Doing these things is giving me ideas for my own useful brushes in creating the kinds of environments I want to make. I still have a ways to go with the DVD though, and want to get through it. The problem is setting aside the time to do it.

brush test

I have been so busy lately that I have really not done many speedpaintings… or blog posts for that matter. But now I am getting back into it again and have decided to just start over. I have gone back and re-created the brushes that I did earlier this year to get more practice at this. I have been dedicating a small ammount of time each night this week to creating these new brushes, and here is the first test with those new brushes.

I am following along using a DVD from the Gnomon workshop called from speedpainting to concept art, and using techniques that are being shared by David Levy. I loved this DVD the first time I used it, but had only gotten halfway through. This time I am seeing it through to the end because I don’t like leaving things unfinished. I would recommend this DVD to any artist that uses photoshop.

Anyway, creating these brushes has taken me a few hours over the past few days, but the actual creation of this image took less than a minute thanks to that preparation time. It is crazy how things like that work, lots of time spent leading up to the image being created, but the actual image only taking a few seconds. Preparation is important in any aspect of art, and should not be neglected.

Ok, I am starting to lecture, I am done now! (wow, long post)
