sketch 11-27-06

I have a new category that I am adding to my blog… My digital sketchbook. This is where I will be uploading sketches and other images created digitally, such as 3d models and things like that.

This image is inspired by the rock balancing act in Ice Age II. That movie has great visuals.

marionette redesign

marionette model sheet

marionette head design

This is the marionette character from my personal project. I have begun redesigning him because the old design just wasn’t working for me. I will add a cloak later, but I wanted to get the underlying structure first this time for modeling purposes.

mask (illustration friday)

mask

Well, I am back into illustration friday. This was a fun subject to illustrate, so whoever came up with it… thanks. Suggestions on improvements welcome. (Oh, and you can click on the image for a larger view now.)

I suppose it isn’t very scary since it is kind of soft. Needs more contrast. I have also been liking purple and yellow for some reason.

landscape speedpaint (sketchbook)

coming storm

New digital sketchbook image. I have just been spending most of my sparse free time today sketching up and painting stuff. First my Mask submission for Illustration Friday, and then this image. The story behind this image is that I wanted to teach myself some techniques to quickly conceptualize a landscape without references, or a theme… from scratch basically. I think that this can be of great value in teaching myself not only a computer program (I used Corel Painter), but it would also be very useful in quickly coming up with something that can be used in shot design and composition for animation… or whatever. A concept design I suppose.

monochromatic speedpainting

monospeed

This is another speedpainting. Not as colorful as the last one, but this one really is a speedpainting. After about an hour of setup, I was able to finish this one in about a minute. All elements are reusable, so I can make a variety of compositions using these elements. If I were to decide to refine it into a more finished piece, it would take a bit longer. No larger version this time… sorry.

door texture

doorTexture

I have been working a bit on my texturing skills for 3D this weekend. Here is a door that is at the end of a corridor that I have modeled. It doesn’t have a handle, but I guess it may have been ripped off the door by the people that have been treating it so roughly. Painted from scratch, no photos, no reference. See the scene on my website.
